Paul’s character and gospel are under attack from critics in the church. At stake is whether people can be Christians without also converting to a form of cultural Judaism. While the issue of whether someone needs to be Jewish to be a Christian isn’t an active one in the church these days, it shows us how easily we can assume that our way of being Christian is the only valid way of being a Christian. What we really need to ask ourselves is whether the good news is for me and people like me alone, or whether it’s not also for people who aren’t like me. Is it good news for everyone?
