Jesus’ resurrection on Easter gives us a new perspective on all of the hardships and disappointments we face in our lives. God works through Jesus’ death on the cross to bring us salvation. In the same way, God Works in Our Suffering with that same resurrection power.

Jesus’ followers feel betrayed and disappointed that Jesus appears to fail. But on the road to Emmaus, two of his disciples talk with a stranger who helps them to see that Jesus’ suffering and death weren’t God’s failure, but a part of God’s great plan of redemption. It turns out the stranger is the risen Jesus himself.

When we feel like God has failed us, we can be honest with God about our grief. Rather than running from him in our places of pain, we can invite him into them. He knows what it’s like to suffer. When we do this we also can experience his grace transforming our suffering into victory.
