God’s Assurance of Peace

December 8, 2019 | by

In this week’s sermon, we look at the theme of peace. Isaiah, The Old Testament prophet, called the promised Messiah the Prince of Peace. But if Jesus is God’s assurance of peace, don’t Jesus’ own words about his coming to bring a sword, rather than peace contradict that? Also, what do we even mean by peace?

Peter Examines these questions concluding that Jesus is the means by which God makes peace with us, the assurance of God’s character towards us (which brings us peace) and his example shows how we can be free of apprehension. Furthermore, to follow Jesus faithfully, we must learn to live out his message of peace to the people around us.

Questions for Discussion

  1. What does God’s sending of Jesus communicate to you about God’s heart toward the lost?
  2. What are the ways I have the opportunity to embody God’s message of peace with those around me?
  3. How do I naturally respond to others’ hostility?
  4. What causes me apprehension? How does confidence in God’s presence with me change that fear?
