Working For the Good of Our Community

Working For the Good of Our Community

October 9, 2022 | by Pastor Peter

What does it mean to live as a faithful Christian in a pluralistic society? Jeremiah tells the Jews exiled in Babylon to work for the good of the community where they are located (even if they feel hostility towards it). As Christians who sometimes feel like spiritual exiles, we have to decide how to interact with those outside the church walls. We can be cloistered, combative, or compromising but Jeremiah instructs the exiles to be congenial towards outsiders. Likewise, Christians should work for the benefit of their communities, even when the community is hostile, and so follow the command of Jesus to love our enemies.
