The Incarnation Challenges to Love Like God Does

What would Make Jesus willing to come to earth and live as a human being at the margins of society? The birth of Baby Jesus is an expression of God’s love for the world. But it is also a template for the church, teaching us to love like God. While we know what it is like to love people we find lovely, God shows us what it is like to love the unlovely too. As the church reflects the nature of God to the world, it must learn to love like God–indiscriminately and reflexively–in order to communicate his nature to those who don’t know him.

Questions For Reflection

1. What do you do for the people you love?
2. How do we treat people we don’t like? Is this a Christ-like loving response?
3. What sorts of things could I do to love the unlovely people in my life?
4. In what disciplines could we engage in order to make us better at loving the unlovely?
