Jacob’s dream at Bethel of angels ascending and descending the ladder draws his eyes to heaven, where he sees God and hears his promises and then back to earth which he can see differently because of his encounter with God. For Christians, God calls our eyes heavenward, to contemplate the promises he makes to us, and then back to earth so that we can engage this world with hope and a sense of purpose.
